National Account Manager - Food Retail
Wolverhampton, England, United Kingdom
Apply for this job

This is a standout opportunity for a commercially sharp National Account Manager to join an established food manufacturer and take ownership of a major UK supermarket account with clear scope for further growth.

You’ll inherit an established account, but this role is not simply about maintaining what is already in place. The focus will be on building stronger relationships, identifying new opportunities and driving profitable growth.

We’re looking for someone proactive, curious and commercially driven; someone who can spot opportunities, build trusted relationships and turn ideas into results.

Why this role could be a great move for you

You’ll be joining a growing food business with an ambitious, hands-on culture and a strong presence across multiple categories, particularly within world foods.

You’ll have the autonomy to shape account growth, the exposure to work closely with senior supermarket stakeholders, and the chance to influence range, category and product decisions across multiple departments.

  • Ownership of a major supermarket account with significant revenue potential
  • A varied and commercially interesting product portfolio across multiple food categories
  • The opportunity to manage your own P&L and directly influence account growth
  • A down-to-earth, hardworking environment where attitude matters as much as experience
  • Flexibility or hybrid working considered for the right candidate

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be trusted to manage the account day to day, but also expected to think ahead, challenge where needed and uncover opportunities others may miss. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Taking ownership of account performance, including P&L management and profitable growth
  • Building trusted relationships with buyers, category teams and wider commercial stakeholders
  • Reviewing sales data, identifying trends and using insight to support commercial decisions
  • Presenting new product opportunities, range ideas and seasonal campaign proposals
  • Attending customer meetings, supermarket events and head office presentations
  • Working closely with internal teams to ensure customer expectations are met and opportunities are delivered

What we’re looking for

This role would suit someone who is proactive, hardworking and hungry to grow an account, rather than someone who is content to let things tick over.

The right person will be ambitious without ego, commercially sharp without arrogance, and willing to get stuck in when needed. You will ideally bring:

  • Previous experience managing supermarket or major grocery retail accounts within food, FMCG or a related sector
  • The ability to identify growth opportunities across departments, ranges and product categories
  • Strong relationship-building skills with buyers, category teams and senior stakeholders
  • Strong data analysis skills, with the ability to interpret sales performance, trends and consumer behaviour
  • A proactive, commercially focused approach to account development
  • Flexibility to travel to customer meetings when required

Role details

  • Salary: £50,000–£60,000 basic salary, depending on experience
  • Bonus: Performance-related bonus, circa £5,000–£10,000, based on revenue growth
  • Working pattern: Ideally office-based, with some flexibility or hybrid working considered
  • Sector: Food / FMCG / Grocery / Retail
  • Account focus: Major UK supermarket account

This role would suit someone with experience in a sales, account management or national account management role, with a strong track record of driving growth within food retail, major supermarkets, grocery, world foods, food manufacturing or FMCG.
